Dormitory
There are two accommodation buildings (B1 & B2) for female students, but they are not yet available for selection. Allocation will only be confirmed after the drawing in August. As room-for-two provides more space and a better studying environment, is it possible for students who are admitted through the main round to be given priority for these rooms?
Reply from OSA:
Dear Student,
We fully understand your wish to have a more spacious and quiet study environment, and your positive attitude towards learning is truly appreciated.
Regarding applications for twin rooms, in order to ensure that all new students for Academic Year 2026-2027 can successfully move into the accommodations, while also taking into account for current students, applications for twin rooms are not open during the initial stage at present. The response of your enquiry is as the following:
1. The accommodation rights for overseas Chinese and international students have been prioritised by the university to ensure that everyone can live securely during their studies.
2. If there are twin rooms remain available after further review, we will proactively notify students who have already paid the accommodation deposit. Allocation of vacancies will be proceeded on the order in which preference registration of your submission in the Administration System (please note that the Administration System will use your most recent saved submission).
Therefore, we recommend that you complete the deposit payment and confirm your accommodation allocation first. Should any twin-room vacancies become available, the Administration System will process them in order of priority at the earliest opportunity.
We wish you a pleasant and satisfying accommodation experience in the upcoming academic year!
The space in the Building H is quite limited. The space is in sufficient to store personal belongings if four students share a room, especially for students from the Department of Fashion Styling & Design Communication and Department of Fashion Design & Merchandising.
Reply from OGA:
Thank you for your feedback. The residents are advised to make good use of the current existing space for proper storage, such as the top and inside of the long cabinet in the living room, the top of the shoe cabinet, and the area underneath the desk. We apologise for any inconvenience.
The corridors in the accommodation Building H are very dim in the evening, and there is no lighting near the water dispensers. I think it would be better to install more lights along the corridors. And the sound insulation in the accommodation buildings could be improved. In addition, all belongings must be completely cleared out during the winter vacation (including for students who will continue to stay in the following semester), which is rather inconvenient for us. As a result, some students would consider renting off campus instead.
Reply from OGA:
Thank you for your feedback. There is additional lighting installed beside the water dispensers in Building H, and all switches were found to be functioning normally after careful inspection. Regarding the corridor lighting, we will review the current circumstance with the management unit to see the replacement or upgrading the lighting facilities.
As for the sound insulation in the building, the management unit will continue its guidance to the residents on keeping the noise down and not to disturb other residents.
Reply from OSA:
Regarding the sound insulation, we have taken note of your feedback, which will serve as an important reference for future improvement and maintenance of our facilities. As the accommodation is a shared living environment, we will continue to remind all residents to keep their volume down during late-night and early-morning hours to maintain the quality of residential environment.
As for the clearing-out during the winter break, we understand that this can be quite a challenge, especially for overseas and international students. As the winter break is relatively short, students who will stay in the same room for the next semester are allowed to pack their personal belongings and store them in their room.
Taking Building H, which you currently live in, as an example, you do not need to clear all your belongings. Here are the instructions:
a. Pack your belongings into boxes: Pack your personal belongings securely into boxes or suitcases.
b. Place your boxes or suitcases in designated spots: Place your packed boxes or suitcases neatly inside your personal wardrobe and in the space underneath the wardrobe.
This way, you won’t have to carry your luggage back and forth! It is also a great opportunity to organize and declutter your personal belongings, making your living space even more comfortable. The accommodation is a home for all the residents, and we sincerely hope this arrangement would help you out. We look forward to having you stay with us next semester!
Campus Life
I would suggest the university to consider planning a shuttle bus service between the campus and Zuoying. Based on my understanding of other universities, they generally provide more convenient transport options. Also, the timing of the last bus from Zuoying to the campus is rather early, which leads to many students’ decision to move to Cishan due to work commitments.
Reply from OSA:
Thank you for your valuable feedback regarding campus transportation issues. The university places great importance on students’ transportation needs, especially those of overseas Chinese students, international students, and students from distant areas. In response to the transportation difficulties mentioned, the OSA will actively coordinate with the bus service provider, and make further implement as the following:
1. Introducing of a Direct High-Speed Rail Shuttle Service (Trial Operation):
To improve the convenience of travelling home, a direct shuttle service from the campus to Zuoying High-Speed Rail Station will be introduced on a trial basis next semester (the 1st semester of academic year 2026-2027). The service is scheduled to depart at 17:15 on Fridays during the semester. This shuttle will not stop at any Qishan stations and will travel directly to Zuoying High-Speed Rail Station (estimated arrival time: 18:30), significantly reducing commuting time.
(Please note: if there are national holidays, adjusted holiday schedules, or non-Friday holiday periods, this service for that week will be suspended. Students are kindly asked to pay attention to the announcements from the university.)
2. Improving the schedule Arrangements:
We have reviewed the current bus schedules and rearrange the service schedule, allowing transport resources to be allocated more effectively and efficiently.
3. Sustainable Operation and Ongoing Evaluation:
Transportation is a key factor in enhancing campus accessibility and attractiveness. This direct shuttle service will undergo a one-month trial evaluation period. If the average monthly capacity remains stable at more than 30 passengers, the university will seek funding to make the service permanent.
We sincerely hope students will support and make full use of this service. The university will continue to improve transportation services, in hope that students’ commuting burdens would be lessened. Once again, thank you very much for your thoughtful suggestions!
Others
In my opinion, certain facilities could be further improved in addition to the student accommodation, for example:
a.Installing lighting that remains on at night so that the area would not be too dark.
b.Adding a lift in Building H to make it easier for residents on the second or third floors to carry large luggage to their rooms.
c.Improvements for transport arrangement, such as providing a direct shuttle bus service between the campus and Zuoying.

1.Regarding the corridor lighting, we will review the current circumstance with the management unit to see the replacement or upgrading the lighting facilities.
2.Building H is designed in a semi-outdoor, home-style layout and currently does not have an elevator. There will be future adjustments for the building depending on students’ needs, or relocation to another accommodation building may be considered. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

It is particularly inconvenient for international students that the number of university shuttle services is relatively limited. I believe that transport is currently one of the most significant challenges, as I have always hoped to recommend this university to my juniors from high school to study design-related programmes here, especially Department of Fashion Styling & Design Communication, which I am currently studying. However, the insufficiency of transport service does affect their decision-making. From my first to my fourth year, the overall transport situation has not improved; in fact, it feels as though it has become more inconvenient, especially for students who do not have a scooter or a car, and their commuting options are extremely limited as well. Therefore, I believe the university could consider planning more transport options or increasing the frequency of shuttle services, so that students would have more options with their commute.
In addition, some of my friends who are also overseas students have mentioned that acquaintances in their home countries had originally been admitted to Shih Chien University (Kaohsiung Campus), but after hearing that the location of the campus is on the mountain with limited transport options, they ultimately decided to give up the admission offer and chose to attend other universities instead. This shows that transport issues not only affect current students, but also have a direct impact on student recruitment and the university’s international appeal.
